Lately the Gr. 3 classes have been going to the Allendale Rec Centre to do the Swim to Survive program on the 1st, 8th and the 22nd of March. On the 1st we had a swim test to see what levels we were at and our abilities in swimming. The students were divided into three groups. Matthew said that he practised the dead man’s float, the front and back stroke and a front roll into the pool. Another group practised treading water, swimming 25 metres and rolling into the water holding hands.(which wasn’t Brendon’s favourite). Kids in another group like Kai practised diving off the diving board, racing other kids down the length of the pool and treading water for two minutes. Madison and Kezza commented that they wished they could go again. Adam reported that it was a great source of excercise. Ryan P. said that he liked the free time after the lessons. Callan explained that he liked diving off the diving board during free time. This was a very important and worthwhile program.

The children worked together to create this scary story. Shared writing is a great way to learn the writing concepts that we are working on. Notice our descriptive words and how we came up with an interesting beginning, middle and end.

On november 8 2012 Mrs.Gilliand`s class went to the play Honk . jr. It was about an hour long. When our class arrived at georgian college we were escorted to the theatre. The play finally started. In the begining the mother duck lays 5 eggs.4 eggs hachted first and they went of with their father. when the last egg hatched the mother duck took him down to the waters edge. In the middle the cat took the ugly duckling away also the ugly duckling escaped the cat and found out about the dangers past the farmyard.In the end the ugly duckling found out that he was a swan and also got back together with his family again.

The students have been working hard creating stories using a computer program called Frames 4. They have learned to sequence a story and create images to match each part of the story. They quickly learned to cut and paste images from Google Images to “fancy up” their stories.
